Ducati had unveiled the 1299 Superleggera at the EICMA 2017 which is the Limited Edition MotoGP class offering.
When it comes to loving something about Italy, the list must start with Ducati for motorcycle enthusiasts like me. They have been wooing us since years with their alluring looking motorbikes designed by the world’s top designers. Among many bikes, the Ducati Panigale 1299 has been one of my personal favourite superbikes of all time.
At the 2017 EICMA at Milan, Italy, Ducati had unveiled the 1299 Superleggera which is the MotoGP class offering. Resembling its Panigale versions, it has a majority of style bits that are the traditional Ducati thing.
Fortunately, this premium motorcycle has been announced to be on sale in the Indian market and it will hold the eye-watering price tag of Rs 1.12 crore. To inform you, it is the most expensive motorcycle to be sold in India. Previously, the Ducati Panigale Anniversario edition was sold at around Rs 60 lakhs and the MV Augusta F4 RC World Superbike Championship race replica was retailed at Rs 50 lakhs.
You must be wondering what makes the Superleggera this expensive. Well, it packs a host of high-end material to cost that much.
Except for the engine, almost every part of it has been made up of carbon-fibre including wheels, main frame and swingarm. The use of this type metal for various body parts has cut down the weight to a large extent and it just weighs 156kg (dry).
The Ducati 1299 Superleggera gobbles up a 1285cc Desmodromic L-twin engine which contributes to the weight reduction of the motorcycle. The mill is capable of pumping out an intimidating power of 215 PS at 11000 RPM and 146.5 Nm of torque at 9000 RPM. Don’t forget that this power figure makes it the most powerful twin-cylinder engine ever made.
It carries the top-end fully-adjustable Öhlins suspension set-up of and four-piston Brembo M50 Monobloc radial callipers for braking to make it highly efficient and also to reduce the kerb weight.
On the electronic front, the list of features does not end. It comes with multiple riding modes, power modes, DTC (Ducati Traction Control), DWC (Ducati Wheelie Control), DSC (Ducati Stability Control), DPL (Ducati Power Launch), DQS (Ducati Quick Shift) for both up and down, EBC (Engine Braking Control), DDA+ (Ducati Data Analyzer) with GPS module and full ride-by-wire.
To inform you about its exclusivity, let me tell you that only 500 units of the Ducat 1299 Superleggera have been manufactured. Thumbs up for Ducati!!
