It carries a vertical LCD instrument cluster with a few parts same as that on the BMW G310R
Unveiled at the 2016 Auto Expo, the Akula 310 which is the upcoming flagship model by TVS has been spied testing once again. It has been sighted many times before and the anticipation for it is increasing with every passing day. Gradually, the Indian market seems getting flooded by 300cc motorcycles introduced by various bike makers and a few being on the way. In such times, how could TVS have kept quiet?
A sports bike by cosmetics, the TVS Akula 310 mechanically shares most of its parts with its naked sibling the BMW G310R which will also be sold by TVS in India. As we know, the naked entry-level BMW pumps out 34 PS of power and 28 Nm of torque which is expected to be somewhat similar on the Akula 310. Apart from suspension, tyres and alloys, many of the parts have been sculpted to suit its identity of being a track tool.
The spied images reveal a detailed view of a few parts with instrument cluster clearly visible. It is a quite unique vertically stretched LCD unit beautifully strapped between fairing and handlebars. Perhaps, it will carry many advance information rather than to display only the usual figures such as speed, RPM, fuel level and KMs ridden. An ample of telltale lights reside above the screen which might be the ABS indicator (if it will consist it), side stand indicator and a few others.
Currently, the king of this segment is the KTM RC390 rivalling the Yamaha R3 and Kawasaki Ninja 300. This upcoming offering from TVS, with its giant fairing, beefy fuel tank, sharp tail section and LED split headlamps, will give a tough fight to its competitors.
The TVS Akula 310 is expected to be launched before the end of March and the pricing would be at around Rs 2 lakhs to keep it competitive in this segment. However, the manufacturing to be taken place at the TVS’ Hosur plant, it won’t be a tough task for the bike maker to curtail the price.
