It will be offered only in one variant and is expected to be launched by mid-2017
India will now get the adventure tourer by Honda, the Africa Twin, which is expected to arrive by sometime around June, this year. Making its introduction at the Auto Expo 2016, Honda had signalled the addition of a new offering in India’s adventure tourer lineup. Reported to enter via CKD route, it will probably offer a better deal as compared to those expensive competitors.
As per the ergonomics, it is a perfect epitome of a muscular ADV being 1475 mm tall, 875 mm wide and head to tail measuring 2235 mm. For tackling the rocky and gravelled terrain, it boasts of the ground clearance of 250 mm. Other features on offer are a 23-litre fuel tank, ABS and Honda Selectable Torque Control. Notably, in India, it will be only offered in a single variant incorporating auto shifting dual-clutch transmission.
The semi-double cradle type chassis of the Honda Africa Twin straps a 998cc parallel twin, liquid cooled engine and the motor generates 94 HP of power and 97 Nm of torque. Apparently, it offers all the touring friendly features including tall height, wide and easy-to-reach handlebars, spoke wheels and long suspension travel for a comfortable mountain climbing and mile munching.
If Honda prices it under the mark of Rs 20 lakhs garnering a solid sales number wouldn’t be a tough target to reach. Standing in its way are highly admired rivals such as Triumph Tiger, Kawasaki Versys 1000 and Ducati Multistrada.
