The 2017 Suzuki GSX-R1000 and GSX-R1000R have a lot to go crazy for, apart from the stunning new looks and higher power figures.

Suzuki GSX-R1000 has been one of the favourite sports bikes among the riders around the world since its induction into the market. It went through frequent overhauls whenever the company and the riders needed. So after various incarnations, the 2017 iteration looks to justify the modern world demands and has everything that an experienced litre-class rider would yearn for in such a premium track tool.

Reports have flown that the 2017 Suzuki GSX-R1000 and GSX-R1000R are all set to come down at Indian dealerships and the bookings are about to commence. By the end of April or early May, riders will be able to reserve their monster and it will probably be delivered to them by mid-June. Down payment varies city-wise starting from Rs. 1 to 5 lakhs.

Coming to the bikes, except for the difference of a single alphabet ‘R’, there are various other distinctions which keep both the bikes apart from each other. Let’s have a glimpse on what the premium offerings from Suzuki come packed with.

The design of the 2017 GSX-R1000 has come a long way through evolution and sports a more compact and sportier stance. The tiny headlamp surrounded by huge air vents on either side make for a grown up front section. Moving towards the overall flesh, everything has been neatly carved resulting in a beautiful design with loads of creases and curves.

Putting some light on the electronics, it is an aura with which the bikes come loaded. The GSX-R1000 incorporates a motion track ABS which adjust itself according to the available traction. At the same time, the Inertia Measurement unit (IMU) comes into play which gives additional chassis pitch input while braking. The IMU acts as a sensor to judge various factors while riding and adjusts the power delivery as per the requirements. Comes with the bike is also the ten-mode Motion Track Traction Control system which offers better riding while being on track.

For soaking the bumps and undulations, the front is equipped with Showa big piston forks and at the rear, Showa adjustable mono shock plays the role. Stopping power is gained by Brembo T-drive 320mm dual brake rotors with 4-piston mono bloc callipers for the front tyres while single piston Nissin disc for the rear.

Turning our attention to the GSX-R1000R, it is the racier version of the bike possessing various tech taken straight from the company’s MotoGP bikes. Since this is more of a track focussed machine, it sports a bidirectional quick shifter to help the rider change gears with minimum use of the clutch and, it is complemented with launch control. Suspension set up takes care of the rider to be confident around the corners and bumps since it comes with Showa Balance-Free Front Fork and Showa Balance Free Rear Cushion lite at the rear.

The GSX-R1000R weighs 203 kg which results in amazing power to weight ratio with lightweight upper fork clamp and compact battery. Albeit, it measures 2 kg heavier as compared to the standard model.

The engine of the bikes is a 999.8cc inline four cylinder, liquid cooled DOHC behemoth unit which comes humongous-ly powerful delivering the power of 202.1PS and torque of 117.5 Nm. Notably, comparing the power figures to the predecessor, it has been hiked by full 16 PS and torque has been raised by 0.9 Nm. For adding a sharpness to the performance, Variable Valve Timing system help to boost the high-end power keeping up the mid and low-end delivery optimum. The bike is pulled by the chain and the engine is mated to a six-speed cassette-type unit.
