The Italian brand was on respite for several years. Now, after reviving operations three years back, SMW will step in India with its flagship offering.
India has been one of the top preferences of the newly growing motorcycle brands. After it was noticed that it has become the top market for bikes, many companies are either setting up their dealerships or manufacturing plants in India. One of such bikemaker is eyeing to enter in the country by the end of this year. It is an age-old Italian-grown company, SWM.
Formed in 1971, the motorcycles of SWM were known for their versatile enduro and motocross offerings back then. After working enthusiastically for a few years, the company, due to some reason, has to abolish their operations in 1984. After which, SWM never existed until three years back, when it once again broke the walls and stood in the international market.
As reported, the brand has already been selling out its motorcycles in 25 countries and the next target is India, of course. Although there are several robust motorcycles in the lineup of SWM, India will only be getting the Superdual T which is multi-purpose on/off road machine. It comes strapped on a 600cc, liquid-cooled, single cylinder engine which produces 54 PS of power and 53.5 Nm of torque. The fuel tank has the capacity of 18 ltr and it weighs 169 kgs. The 19-inch front and 17 inch rear wheels come shod with Metzeler Tourance tyres. The ground clearance and seat height are ample for any ground and are adjustable as well.
For selling its products in India, the company is collaborating with Motoroyale, the banner which sells MV Agusta bikes in the country. By June or July, the formalities of the partnership will be accomplished and by the end of this year, riders will get to see the first offering being officially launched.
